I would also say Percy Jackson because I personally want to read them but it's a series so I will fit it around my own schedule Oh you should. They are an easy read and very interesting to anyone that likes mythology. Obviously a few liberties where taken in the modernizing but the author is a teacher so he stayed fairly true to the classics.

Sass - I think the reasoning behind not including series books is b/c some people (*cough - myself) are way anal and once we start a series, we HAVE to finish the whole series.

MrsJoseph, I read the Dark is Rising series ages ago and just re-read one of the books and started the second one. It wasn't as good as I remembered.
I also have to recommend anything by Patricia C. Wrede. She's more young adult/teen than teen/adult, so I wouldn't really suggest we read anything for the book club, but if you're interested in reading some quick, fun and clever fantasy, definitely check her out. She's one of my favorites.

Shana - are you serious?? I LOVE the Dark is Rising series. I admit I haven't read it in a few years but...
I also love Tamora Pierce's books. I've read a ton of them.
