As a former bookseller, I can rattle off plenty of the books from the fiction favorites table. I've read a lot of these, but I love re-reading and discussing.
Empire Falls by Richard Russo The Alchemist by Paolo Coehlo The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood Bel Canto by Ann Patchett Catch-22 by Joseph Heller Martin Dressler by Stephen Milhauser Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger Atonement by Ian McEwan
Non-Fiction Whatever it Take by Paul Tough Shadow Divers Everything Bad is Good for You by Steven Johnson Assassination Vacation by Sarah Vowell
Oh and I need to throw His Dark Materials into the fantasy ring.

Oh! I loved "The Alchemist!" I even follow Paulo Coehlo on twitter...
I've been very resistant to the idea of the Time Traveller's Wife. I feel like he was committing child abuse (yeah, I know - ppl tell me its not quite like that, but that's how I feel so its very creepy...like the Anne Rice book)
